Dave Lucas update

Dave Lucas, the award-winning Toronto Sun photographer who parted company this week, tells Toronto Sun Family he is going to miss "all the great people at the Sun."

Says Dave, who has moved on to accept a Globe and Mail newsroom desk job:
"I'm really going to miss all the great people at the Sun and will always remember swimming in the Indian Ocean with Michele Mandel and taking half a day on ATVs to get 4 km into a hunting camp in backwoods Louisiana and finding Biddy Baby with Thane Burnett."

Dave was hired in 2001 as a full time freelance photographer and became a full time staffer with the ratification of the SONG union contract. In six short years, he made a difference at the tabloid with his memorable, award-winning photographs.

His awards include an Eastern Canadian News Photographers Association 2002 Picture of the Year Award, along with a first place spot news award, for a picture taken during Corporal Ainsworth Dyer's funeral.

Dave also received a third place award for his photo story on Sun writer Jerry Gladman while Jerry was writing his heartbreaking first-person series on Living and Dying With ALS.

Visit Dave's web site for a wide selection of photographs this gifted young news photographer has snapped around the world.

Good luck at the Globe, Dave, but with an eye like yours, please don't retire your cameras.
