Croc, fist, photo

Glenn Garnett explains in his latest Inside the Sun blog posting why Toronto Sun editors decided to publish a wire photo of a severed forearm locked in the jaws of a crocodile.

Glenn, the editor in chief, said they expected a few calls about the photo, snapped at a Taiwan zoo, but not a call. Perhaps it was the happy ending, with the forearm being reattached to the victim.

Or maybe nothing is too bizarre for today's readers.

Speaking of Sun photos, a photo of a dying dog trapped under a streetcar in the 1980s apparently still holds the record for the number of protest calls and letters to the editor.

That photo put the Sun in the doghouse for awhile.
